Confirm tractor compatibility

Check minimum PTO horsepower, hydraulic outlets, electrical connections, tractor weight and drawbar requirements. A tractor that can turn the PTO may still be a poor match in hills or heavy crop.

Choose the package

Bale diameter, width, density and wrap system affect hauling, storage and feeding. Decide whether netwrap, twine or another supported system best fits the operation.

Match pickup and capacity to the windrow

Pickup width, flotation, tooth condition and crop flow should match the windrow delivered by the rake or windrower. A high-capacity baler cannot recover time if the pickup is overloaded, plugging or leaving crop behind.

Plan for the weather window

Automation, wrapping speed and density control matter most when acres are ready at once. Compare realistic bales per hour, operator workload and the parts most likely to stop the machine—not only advertised peak capacity.

Inspect a used baler carefully

Look beyond paint and bale count.

  • Pickup teeth, bands and cam components
  • Belts, laces, chains and sprockets
  • Bearings and rollers
  • Density and wrap systems
  • Monitor, harness and sensors
  • Evidence of fire, heat or poor lubrication
